Las Vegas vacations can be a dream holiday, or they could turn into a nightmare if you are targeted by a thief. If you are in a casino and win a jackpot, or even just a good hand at the poker table then many people will notice you. Among the admirers in Las Vegas will be some individuals who are looking to target someone as their next pay check. Now you may think it’s ok because you are staying in the hotel where the casino is, so you don’t need to walk outside down any streets so there is no opportunity for anyone to steal your money. Unfortunately this assumption is wrong; a thief can relatively easily break in to your hotel room, even if you think it is locked and secured.
Many people allow the door to close behind them without checking it has actually that it has closed properly, making it very easy for a thief just to apply pressure to your door when you are out and walk in and take the money. Alternatively a credit card can be used to move the latch mechanism over and allow free entry in to your room. The last thing you’d want if you were sitting down relaxing, or taking a shower, would be for a thief to walk in to your room. And, of course, they will claim that they simply made a mistake and went in to the wrong room as all the doors look the same, or the hotel made a mistake with the reservation (which has been known to happen).
The simple solution is to double-check when you enter and leave your room that you have properly secured the door. Not just allowed the latch to click in to place, but used the key or lifted the handle to secure the lock. Also, make sure you use the safe in your hotel room for all important documents and any valuables, which will give you an extra level of peace of mind. Las Vegas is a great place for vacations, but look after yourself and your belongings wherever you travel.
